How to choose your duvet

Warmth: choose for your room and sleeping habits

Consider your bedroom temperature, air conditioning and whether you usually feel hot or cold at night. TOG measures thermal insulation: a higher rating means greater warmth. Weight and thickness alone do not tell you how warm a duvet is. Compare a TOG rating only when it is stated for the product.

Down, feather or synthetic filling?

High-down fillings generally offer warmth with a lighter feel; feather-rich fillings tend to feel weightier. Synthetic fillings provide another option. Compare the confirmed filling, fabric and care instructions for each model.

A 90% down / 10% feather blend describes composition, not a warmth rating. Down percentage alone cannot prove that one duvet is warmer than another.

What do fill weight and fill power mean?

Fill weight is the weight of the filling, separate from total duvet weight. Fill power measures the volume occupied by a specified weight of down and feather under test conditions. Neither is interchangeable with TOG.

Which size should I choose?

Measure your mattress and allow for your preferred overhang on both sides. Compare dimensions in centimetres, rather than relying only on size names. If using a duvet cover, check its dimensions too.

Fabric, construction and care

Check the outer fabric separately from the filling, plus the stitching pattern and care label. Follow the specific washing and drying instructions for your model; do not assume every duvet is machine washable.
